Nature’s Accessible Backyard Trail
Programs
Nature's Accessible Backyard Trail was designed for people unable to use regular walking trails. The 1,100 foot paved trail includes a wildflower garden, a deck overlooking Beaver Pond, a water garden and a gazebo which overlooks Heron Pond. There are resting areas with benches and room for wheelchairs. The trail loops through meadow and shrub habitats and over a bridge toward a bird feeding area. Trail maps are available at the Center.
The Wildlife Garden has been designed with plants that attract both butterflies and hummingbirds. This garden is maintained without the use of pesticides of any kind. This is a dynamic garden. The Wildlife Garden is made possible through the hard work of the volunteer Wildlife Gardeners, with support from Five Rivers staff.
FFR and Five Rivers staff cooperatively offer guided outdoor lessons to school groups from September through June. DEC-trained volunteer instructors teach a variety of lessons to students from pre-K through grade 8. The fee for this program helps defray its costs and is based on the number of instructors needed.
