Guided School Program Building Taking Shape

Thanks to a generous donation to the Friends from Herbert and Marguerite Repass in honor of their daughter, beloved Five Rivers guided school program director Wendy Repass Suozzo, a new building is being constructed to house the Guided School Program, replacing the historic but decrepit Goose Lodge. The lodge was built during the depression as a Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) project when the future Five Rivers was established as an experimental game farm.

With completion expected by June 2012, the new building will provide much-needed classroom and storage space for the program. The new building boasts geo-thermal climate control and a living roof among other "green" features, and will be part of a complex that eventually replaces the current Visitors Center.

In these hard fiscal times for NYS government and its Department of Environmental Conservation when other NYS environmental education centers have had their DEC staff eliminated, Five Rivers Center with the help of the Friends and its donors has been able to continue to foster a love of nature and the environment in all who visit. For this we all are most grateful.
